When you first start reading Revenge & Prophecy, Lowor looks like many other fantasy worlds where Magic works. But in Lowor, gods are unknown, women and men have the same choices, and citizens consider the greater good when making decisions. Except in Meech. There, five men control the borough and its citizens in the name of the Magic. These false wizards try to extend their influence by attacking the only person in Lowor who knows how to invoke the Magic, Ilyana. Their plans are thwarted by an audacious ship's captain, Rath. Ilyana and Rath join forces to challenge the despots in Meech and free western Lowor from their tyranny. Revenge & Prophecy offers good reading on several levels: an enjoyable adventure, a romantic love story, and a world that is thought-provokingly different. Jeanne Silsby, Corvallis, Oregon
